What to do???

So I recently had an interview with Cintas about taking a managment trainee position with their company. Cintas is an amzing company with some amazing oppurtunities for growth and advancement with a solid training structure set up. At the same time the position requires at least a two year commitment of working 50-55hours a week. The hours do not scare me away from the job but rather the fact that I will be locking into a job that works me every day of the year. The other option is to pursue the teaching certification program I have already been accepted to. The benefits of this are that it pays close to the same amount and also would still afford me the ability to coach football, which after some questions asked in my interview Im not sure Im done with yet. On top of that with teaching you are looking at about a 9 month work year, not a bad gig even if the pay is less as you can work in the summer and make more money. The benefits and negatives are there, its just up to me to decide what course of action seems to be most logical. The ability to work with people and help them grow is evident in either position but I feel that the connections and bonds of working in a school and teaching/coaching young people is far more lasting.

Any thoughts or comments are welcome, please leave some I could use other opinions.

Job News

So its March 20th and Im still unemployed. THe good news is I have a part time job in the works right now that I should know about in a couple days, and I jsut got a phone call today abotua full time job. The full time job is obviously the most appealing and is with a well established company in Cintas. I will be trying to gain employment as a managment trainee with the hopes of making a career for myself and maybe having enough money some day to be debt free. That is all for now, all you congratulations are appreciated.

Still Unemployed

Unemployment Update:

Still unemployed, but do have a lead on a decent stop gap part time job with Pepsi Bottling Group. Its not a career but it will fill the time. Also havent received any unemployment compensation as of yet due to government organization processing paper work. Heres some fun stuff in the meantime.

Oh the wonders of a college degree

Well, I write this post now three weeks and three days into my journey of being unemployed, and oh what a wonderful journey it has been so far. In case you are not aware I was dismissed from my demanding yet somewhat cushy job of coaching football at a small liberal arts college for my use of an analogy. Being released under such flimsy pretenses is one thing but to be cast out in such an egregious manner is another.

The odd thing about being unemployed is that yeah, im bothered because Im not collecting a paycheck but even more so, is what am I supposed to do with all my free time? I have been doing the job hunt, which I will cover later, but in the other hours of the day what is there to do? I have found myself reading much, more, finishing three books in the last eight days alone. I also have developed the nasty habit of sleeping in, this is not something I am to keen on. I wake up at normal hours, 8am usually but there is little to no incentive to get out of bed as the day will repeat the previosu trend, job search, reading, some tv, working out. Its not all bad I guess, but for someone who was used to working about a 60 hour week, it is a bit strange to now be working none. I am open to suggestions on how to kill my free time if anyone has some.

As for the job hunt, I thought "hey, i'll be able to find a job, I'm a college grad". Wrong again, the job market in Michigan is to begin with sparse and based on the degree I earned it appears im almost unemployable. I obtained a bachelors degree in history three years ago with a minor in criminal justice. Not the most ambitious combo, but my academic advisor in college was to say the least apathetic towards my education. Dont get me wrong he was a good guy, but he was more interested in teaching his courses, big surprise right? At no point was I guided by my advisor that I may want to puruse a teaching certificate with my degree after all he was a history major and he was doing alright. Nor was I ever told that I might want to look into a more useful major if I was not going to teach. As it is, none of that was said and the career services at my college like Im sure they are at other schools are about as useful as a bent dick. So now I am applying to places like Family Video and Lowes Hardware along with Human resources at Borders books. My resume is on monster.com and I have some great experience in a variety of fields and job categories but i have received but one inquiry and that was a owkr for free insurance position.

Now I ponder my return to academia, it would appear I am either going to be entering an accelerated teachers education program in may or trying to find a job and pursue a masters degree of some sort. Thoughts and input on this matter are welcome as well. I would like to find a nice job that i can just work m 9-5 collect the honest paycheck and move on with my life.
I'll keep you posted on the results, this is going to turn into a kind of unemployment journal for a while, lets hope its not to long.
